Our hearts go out to all those in Christchurch that have been affected by the massive 7 plus earthquake that struck. We wish you all a safe and quick recovery from this natural disaster that the lords have stuck the people and town with.
The quake and tremors stretched to Wanaka as many people felt their beds shaking. If you are venturing out into the backcountry in the next few days you may want to rethink your plans until things settle down a little and safety sweeps can be carried out in high avalanche areas.
Mt Hutt is approximately 44 kms from the earthquakes epicentre has been hit with several avalanches to date.
